In an emergency ring 000

Non emergency ring 131 233

There is now a permanent paramedic based on the island and the Ambulance Station is located in Happy Valley.  There are generally no doctors on Fraser Island (unless they are here on holidays) and no hospital or chemist.

If the ambulance station is unattended there is an emergency phone located at the Station.  There is also a minor casualty room at the Happy Valley Station if required, if the Paramedics are in attendance at the station at the time.

One of the better supplies of pharmaceutical products are available in the shop at Cathedral Beach and there are a limited supply at the other shops on the island.

But always remember when you are travelling on Fraser Island, this is a remote location so help can be possibly hours away and also limited stocks and supplies are available and no prescriptions medication available.

There is a heli-pad if required in an emergency at Eurong, Happy Valley, Orchid Beach and Kingfisher Bay.

Fire

In an emergency please ring 000

There is a Rural Fire Brigade Shed in each of the township areas, Eurong, Happy Valley, Orchid Beach and Kingfisher Bay.

If there is bushfire in the National Park, please ring 000

Tow Truck

There is only one tow truck based in Eurong on the island and if you require towing assistance please contact Dave on the details below.  Just remember we all work with the tides, so Dave may not be able to assist you immediately if there is an incoming tide.

Taxi/Ride Share

There is only one Taxi on Fraser Island and pre-bookings are essential.  Steve and Lisa are based in Eurong, and offer a range of services.  There is also a second vehicle with a Ride Share option, for busy times.   Some of the varying services provided are:

Pick up and deliver to/from barges, The Great Walk transfers,  passenger transfers for broken down vehicles, Resort and Accommodation transfers,  travel to a lake for a swim or visit the highlights of the island for a day. They don’t work on a permit structure as per the tours so are able to travel just about anywhere on the island so they can show you some fabulous “off the beaten track” specialties too.

During drier months of the year, the tracks become increasingly soft and difficult to negotiate and sometimes impassable, due to vehicle breakdowns and boggings as we all share one thoroughfare so predicted times of travel can be extended and delays are often the norm in long dry spells and sometimes even lengthy delays are unavoidable.

Tides rule so they work with nature for the tides on the beach, so just keep this in mind if you wish to book the service to connect with barges/airflights etc.

The shops on the island are more like small convenience stores, not supermarkets by any means.  We rely on supplies only once or twice a week, therefore stocks can be limited.  There is only one bakery on the island (at Eurong) for daily freshly baked bread and other yummy treats.  The prices can be expensive due to delivery conditions/transportation and barge travel costs etc.  They are all open just about everyday but none are open at night.

Fuel

You can purchase fuel at all of the shops listed above.  There is Unleaded Fuel and Diesel, but no Vehicle Gas available on the island.  Fuel can be quite expensive, again due to the delivery conditions/transportation and barge travel costs.

BBQ Gas Refills

You can refill BBQ gas bottles at each of the shops also.  There is a very limited supply of portable hiker’s gas cylinders.
