Travel Options
Whilst Fraser Island is famous for being a 4WD destination, other travel options are available, making the island accessible to all.

Self drive...via sealed roads from Gympie or Maryborough/Hervey Bay. Vehicular barges run daily between Inskip Point (via Rainbow Beach) and Hook Point (on Fraser Island). Barges operate between 7 am and 5 pm daily, bookings not essential - phone Kosta on the Manta Ray barge on 0418 872 599 (if required).
It is advisable to check tide times and beach conditions. If you are not sure, please talk to us via our email link or phone (07) 41 279 188.
Also vehicular barges operate from River Heads (between Maryborough and Hervey Bay) to Wanggoolba Creek or Kingfisher Bay (on Fraser Island). The River Heads barge is generally very busy, and bookings are advisable on 1800 372 737.
Secure parking is available at Rainbow Beach and River Heads (again please contact us for details if required). The Fraser Island Taxi Service is available for "walk-on" barge passengers (as there is only one taxi on the island, prior bookings are essential on (07) 41 279 188).
By air...from Hervey Bay and Maroochydore - aircraft land right on the beach at Eurong. Contact Fraser Air on (07) 4125 3600. This option can be combined with The Fraser Island Taxi Service phone (07) 41 279 188 offering transfers to accommodation or tourist destinations.
Across the Bay...from Urangan Boat Harbour (Hervey Bay) a passenger ferry arrives at Kingfisher Bay, bookings essential on 1800 372 737. Fraser Island Taxi Service can transfer you to your accommodation (bookings are essential via the email link or phone (07) 41 279 188).
